A - E

Assisted Living - Rental Housing with meals and support services provided on site. See Types of Housing for more information.

Assisted Living Registrar - Appointed by the province to protect the health and safety of older adults and people with disabilities who are living in assisted living residences. See FAQ for more information.

BC Housing - Provincial program that provides funding for housing and also directly manages housing. Also operates the SAFER program. See BC Housing Registry for more information on how to apply for housing.

CMHC RRAP & HASI - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program and Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence programs. For more information see FAQ Housing page.

F - L

Home Support - Services that are either purchased privately or provided through the Health Authority - personal care, meal preparation and housekeeping may be part of the services. See FAQ support page for more information.

M - S

Nursing Home - Nursing Homes are now called Residential Care facilities and more information on their services and how to access them can be found on Types of Housing.

Personal Care - Assistance with bathing, medication reminders, assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing etc. Personal Care services are sometimes provided through local Health Authority, see FAQ for more information.

RGI - Rent Geared to Income- housing charges are based on a percentage of ones gross monthly income. Generally this is 30% of gross monthly income.

Residential Care - 24 hour nursing services available either with a subsidy through the Health Authority or paid privately through Private Residential Care. See Types of Housing for more information.

RTA Residential Tenancy Act - Provincial legislation that covers rules and regulations related to tenancy. The Residential Tenancy Office will help you understand your rights and responsibilities under this Act.

SAFER - Shelter Aid For Elder Renters - Subsidy for renters over the age of 60, for more information contact BC Housing.

Seniors - Generally the term Seniors applies to individuals over the age of 55 when talking about rent geared to income housing.
