The SAFER program provides direct cash assistance to eligible residents of British Columbia who are age 60 or over and who pay rent for their homes. The program is administered by BC Housing.
You may be eligible for SAFER if you are over 60, have lived in British Columbia for 12 months before the application date, are NOT receiving income assistance from the Ministry of Social Development (welfare) and are a Canadian Citizen or authorized to take up permanent residence in Canada.
SAFER is for those individuals who have an income below a certain amount and are paying more than 30% of their gross income for rent - this includes pad rental for a manufactured home that you own and occupy.
For more information visit SAFER on BC Housing's website or call 604-433-2218 or 1-800-257-7756.
