Temporary Housing Program (THP)

With generous funding from the United Way of the Lower Mainland, Seniors Services Society’s Temporary Housing Program is filling the gap by providing low-barrier and hospitable shelter space for homeless or at-risk seniors.

ELIGIBILITY

• Vulnerable adults 55 years or older, or less than 55 years with a disability, (priority will be given to those over 55)
• Able to live independently
• Able to live in the unit without being at risk to themselves or disturbing other tenants
• Willing to adhere to THP Rules

The program provides a private apartment, furnished by donation, as temporary accommodation to homeless seniors for an average of three months. Extensions will be negotiated as required.

Clients get one-on-one support from an outreach worker as needed to help them live independently in our temporary program, as well as after they transition into permanent, appropriate housing.

RENT:

Rent is on a sliding scale set at 30% of income, or if on Ministry Income Assistance, rent is set to maximum shelter portion.

THE SUITES:

• Bachelor or one-bedroom apartments fully equipped and furnished through donations including linens, land line telephone, small appliances, television and cable.
• Seniors Service Society rents suites from not-for-profit societies such as Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation, Fairhaven United Church Homes, Swedish Canadian Rest Home and New Vista Society.
• 14 units total located across New Westminster, Burnaby, and Surrey.

HOW TO REFER :

All clients must go through the agency’s standard intake process. Eligibility for THP will be determined by Seniors Services Society.
