Seniors Services Society BC staff have been out in the community recently educating, exchanging ideas, and advocating for vulnerable seniors.

CEO Alison Silgardo attended the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness Conference in Ottawa in late October. While there, she was able to join a diverse set of sessions as well as shine a spotlight on the work SSSBC is doing for older Canadians at risk of losing their homes.

Alison and SSSBC Director of Operations Kyoko Takahashi next attended United Way British Columbia’s Healthy Aging Provincial Summit on Aging in Richmond in early November. This conference brought together community-based seniors’ services organizations, older adults, family and friend caregivers, academia, and government representatives to discuss and collaborate on current issues and innovations in healthy aging. Alison and Kyoko represented SSSBC, expanding our presence and influence.

The BC Non-Profit Housing Association’s Housing Central Conference in Vancouver in mid-November was the next stop for Alison. This time she was accompanied by SSSBC’s SHINE Manager Zabeena Rahiman. The conference is Canada’s leading professional development event for the community housing sector. Alison presented about our SHINE program at a well-attended session. There were also plenty of opportunities to connect with housing peers to share challenges and successes and broaden our partnership opportunities.
